Reported Loss-Time Injuries - Total Construction Ontario, 1986-2001
Since 1986, the reported incidence rate of loss-time injuries per million man-hours dropped from
51.0 in 1986 to 15.6 in 2001. The improved safety is due, in part, by the strong partnership
between unions, contractors and the Construction Safety Association of Ontario (CSAO).

In 2002, CSAO offered almost 2000 courses to over 37,000 participants including managers/
supervisirs, workers, apprentices, unions, trade groups, management and contractor
associations across Ontario. The success of these and other programs have resulted in the
decline of reported loss-time injuries across all WSIB rate groups.
