Construction Injury Performance
Provincial Rates of Loss-Time Injuries, 2001

This section highlights the construction industry's success in reducing reported loss-time injuries
(LTI). Ontario has one of the best safety records in Canada.
Reported Loss-Time Injuries - Total Construction
Ontario, 1986 - 2001

Since 1986, the reported incidence rate of loss-time injuries per million man-hours dropped from
51.0 in 1986 to 15.6 in 2001. The improved safety is due, in part, by the strong partnership
between unions, contractors and the Construction Safety Association of Ontario (CSAO).
Lost-Time Injury Frequency Rates
Electrical, Mechanical, Milwright - Ontario

In 2002, CSAO offered almost 2000 courses to over 37,000 participants including managers/
supervisirs, workers, apprentices, unions, trade groups, management and contractor
associations
across Ontario. The success of these and other programs have resulted in the
decline of reported
loss-time injuries across all WSIB rate groups.
Lost-Time Injury Frequency Rates

The above chart highlights the general decline in loss-time injuries (LTI's) for the major
construction rate as reported by the WSIB.
